3:38Now PlayingUlhasnagar is the fifth-worst affected city in the Thane district of Maharashtra. The city has a population of around 7 lakh and in the last few days there has been a continuous rise in Covid-19 cases. With the city under a complete lockdown till July 22, we are looking at shops being shut and very few movements of vehicles on the road. But lack of health infrastructure and facilities is a huge problem.
The area doesn’t have its own testing labs so swabs are sent to Thane or Mumbai and a person gets report only in 2-3 days. There is a massive bed shortage as a corporation has only ONE dedicated government and private hospital equipped with ICU and oxygen beds.
There are over 2,000 active cases, undergoing treatment in hospitals. Now, the corporation is planning to start taking measures like conducting a door-to-door screening of people in 25 containment zones. The corporation has recorded total 5504 positive cases including 91 deaths. Out of this, 70% of cases have been recorded in the last two weeks alone.
