Twitter has lost its legal shield in India over appointing statutory officers as demanded by the Government of India’s new IT Rules. The government officials said that since the social media application failed to comply with the new digital rules, their protection as an intermediary has gone. This is linked to the new IT Rules that were released earlier this year. The losing of their protection means that Twitter will now be open to any sort of legal action from "third party information, data, or communication link made available or hosted by him."
