Sep 17, 20211:30Now PlayingEmphasizing the need to secure the right to freedom of speech and expression in a democracy like India, the Madras High Court stayed certain clauses of the new Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. This comes after the Bombay High Court took action and stayed some rules of the new IT act. The new IT rules were enacted in May, that aimed to provide an oversight mechanism by the Centre to regulate social media and digital media platforms. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice P D Audikesavulu observed the act and stayed the operation of Rule 9(1) and 9(3) of the IT act. Watch!
