This means that no residential or commercial properties or construction will be allowed on the salt pan. Aaditya Thackeray, the state environment minister, tweeted, "Being asked about allowing residential/commercial construction on salt pan lands, I reiterate that there will be none... allowed... There is more than enough space apart from these lands to construct on." His statement comes a day after the MMRDA received bids for appointing a consultant to draft a master plan for the development of the city's salt pans, which are eco-sensitive zones.
