4:40Now PlayingThe Supreme Court has ordered the release of AG Perarivalan, under Article 142. He was convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. One of the life convicts in the case was in jail for 31 years. The verdict has paved the way for more similar releases for the other 6 convicts including Nalini and Murugan, where the latter is a Sri Lankan national. At the time of conviction, Perarivalan, 19 years old at the time of the assassination, was accused of assisting (by buying batteries) Sivarasan, the mastermind of the assassination. Perarivalan's family was emotional about his release and arrival back home. Gandhi was assassinated in May 1991 and the accused were convicted in January 1998.
