The Supreme Court today ordered the release of AG Perarivalan, under Article 142. He was convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. One of the life convicts in the case, he was in jail for 31 years. He was convicted for assisting the mastermind Sivarasan in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination.
His release was based on 3 reasons. But, the most prominent one is Section 302 of the IPC, which gives the state the right to decide in matters of murder.
