The agency intends to establish bio shields in the state's coastal areas by planting cashew, palmyra, and casuarina trees, as well as mangrove plantings. This is done to prevent soil erosion, manage salinity, and promote biodiversity. The forest and environment department will also prioritize the establishment of seagrass and coral reefs, which sustain marine biodiversity.
Another intriguing development is that the environment department would take on two temples for climate-proofing, one in Chennai and the other in Madurai. These are being used as pilot projects for climate-resilient green temples.
