2:50Now PlayingManohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, has claimed that because jails have their own regulations, he had no role in granting Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh parole. Last Monday, Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for raping two female disciples at his ashram in Sirsa, received a 40-day release. The decision to release him on parole before the panchayat elections and the November 3 by-election in Adampur, Haryana, has caused a stir.
Ram Rahim has been giving internet sermons from his Barnawa ashram in Uttar Pradesh for the past few days. Hundreds of his supporters, including numerous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politicians from Haryana, have attended these speeches.
