2:50Now PlayingPramod Muthalik, the leader of the right-wing group Sri Ram Sena, was taken in preventive arrest by the police on Thursday. He and his men made an attempt to protest the civic body's decision to allow the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) to celebrate the birth anniversary of former Mysore monarch Tipu Sultan in December at Hubballi's Idgah Maidan. The Idgah Maidan has developed into a roiling pot of controversies over the past few weeks. The Karnataka High Court had earlier in August authorised the continuation of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at the Idgah site. AIMIM and Dalit organisations sent a memo to the corporation commissioner on November 8 asking for permission to commemorate the anniversary of Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysuru. When Sri Ram Sena learned of this, they immediately sent a memo asking for permission to celebrate Kanakadasa Jayanti at the same location.
