11:02Now PlayingIn this episode of Big Focus, the host Afrida Ali will be discussing how the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) came under fire from the Supreme Court on Tuesday for the trial of Christian Michel James, the alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland helicopter fraud, proceeding so slowly. Two distinct cases have been filed in connection with the matter by the two investigating authorities. Christian Michel James' appeal of the Delhi High Court's ruling on March 11 by which his bail request was denied was being heard on December 6 by a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha. The bench questioned whether it was right to take away Michel's freedom just because he was a foreigner. The second week of January 2023 has been set aside for a new hearing after the top court additionally requested that the attorneys submit a note to help the court.

"There is no reason for Christian Michel James (alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland chopper scam) to be in jail, when the trial in pending," said Sanjay Hegde, Senior Advocate.
