But looking at the numbers coming in - it looks like the exact opposite. The congress could actually be heading for a narrow victory. Let me tell you what the live results are.
The Congress party is leading in 38 out of 68 seats. The BJP is leading in 27 seats. And three independents are also leading as things stand.
If these numbers hold in the next couple of hours - Congress will form the next government in Himachal. They have three seats more than the majority mark. But if the Congress numbers fall from here - the independents will be key. Three of them are leading at the moment.
The first is K L Thakur who is leading from the Nalagarh seat. The BJP had denied him a ticket, instead giving it to a Congress turncoat.
The second is Hoshyar Singh, who is leading from Dehra. He is also a BJP rebel. He had actually won the same constituency back in 2017, and went on to join the BJP earlier thie year. But once he was denied a ticket, he decided to rebel.
The third candidate is Ashish Sharma, a Congress rebel, who is leading from Hamirpur.
A total of 21 rebels were in the fray this time. And put together, they have turned the fortunes in multiple constituencies.
