14:12Now PlayingDimple Yadav of the Samajwadi Party won the Mainpuri parliamentary by-poll in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, defeating BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya by 2,88,461 votes. The seat was held by party founder and Dimple Yadav's father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav and was vacated after his death on October 10. Mulayam Singh Yadav won the Mainpuri seat in 2019 by 94,389 votes over BJP candidate Prem Singh Shakya. The counting of votes cast in the byelections for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat and six Assembly seats in five states began at 8 a.m. on Thursday. It is stated that the Mainpuri parliamentary constituency became vacant following the death of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
