In this episode of The Urban Debate, host Shreya Dhoundial will discuss how Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, has maintained that the Indian government made "many requests" for the company to restrict accounts that covered farmer demonstrations and those that were critical of the government. Additionally, he said that the platform had been threatened with "a shutdown" and that there had been raids at the domestic residences of its employees. India has refuted the claims and charged Twitter with breaking the law. In response to Dorsey's assertions, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that when he was in office, Twitter engaged in "repeated and continuous violations of Indian law" and occasionally "weaponized misinformation." It also comes at a time when there is a growing discussion on the site about how it supports free speech ideals and there are calls in several nations to limit Twitter's power. Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey holds up a sign against "Brahminical patriarchy," acknowledges his organization's extreme Left-leaning at another time, and as India prepares for the general elections in 2024, he criticises the Narendra Modi administration by spreading untruths about free speech. We are joined by a few panelists expressing their views on this issue. “Jack Dorsey's statement is fundamentally a white lie,” stated R. S. Pathania, BJP Spokesperson.
