6:16Now PlayingCompared to other ocean basins, the Red Sea is very young. This makes it an exciting study subject for marine geologists, as it's one of only a few places on Earth where they can observe the early stages of the formation of an ocean.
Aboard the OceanXplorer, marine geomorphologist Fabio Marchese is on an unprecedented mission to explore the depths of the Red Sea. To achieve this, he combines high-tech tools, such as an acoustics dataset provided by echosounder, sonar, and a sub-bottom profiler, with direct observation of the environment through diving and sampling.
His work will give both geologists and biologists a fuller picture of an uncharted part of the earth, the deep Red Sea.
