Tegnell is a Swedish physician and civil servant. Having served as Sweden’s State Epidemiologist since 2013, he has played a leading role in his country’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, with his approach becoming the subject of debate across the world. Previously, as the head of the Infectious Disease Control department at Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare, he played a key role in the Swedish response to the 2009 Swine Flu pandemic.
