They Didn’t Believe Him, Until It Was Too Late | The Cruel Case of Elliott Williams

After experiencing a severe mental breakdown, 37 year old army veteran, Elliott Williams, was arrested and taken to the Owasso Police Department (OPD) before being booked into the Tulsa County Jail / David L. Moss Criminal Justice Centre. And this was only the beginning of a torturous 6 days for him incarcerated. After suffering an injury causing him to be paralyzed, he was ignored by jail officials, detention officers and medical staff. And for 51 hours on surveillance camera, he remained on the floor of the jail cell, unable to move. This case was one of the most egregious cases of medical neglect of an inmate and of a human being. And it shines light on a larger systemic problem affecting correctional healthcare in jails and prisons across the country.
