A former ICE training instructor just told Congress that thousands of new officers are being sent into communities without knowing the law, the Constitution, or the limits of their authority. 🚨 According to CBS News, Ryan Schwenk, a career ICE attorney who resigned in protest, testified that the agency’s training program is deficient, defective, and broken. 📄 Internal documents show ICE cut training from 72 days to just 42. Sixteen hours of firearms instruction were removed, constitutional rights classes were gutted, and a two-hour course on protester rights was reduced to about ten minutes. It becomes even more serious when you look at policy changes. A directive from acting Director Todd Lyons now authorizes officers to forcibly enter homes without a judicial warrant. ⚖️ ICE leadership claims administrative warrants are enough, but a former Homeland Security general counsel testified that the Supreme Court has made clear police cannot sign their own warrants. Now you have officers with half the training entering homes under a policy legal experts say violates the Constitution. CBS News reports that less than 14% of those arrested by ICE last year had violent criminal records, and about 40% had no criminal history beyond civil immigration violations.
