YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAt the Reform UK conference in Birmingham, PoliticsJOE went inside to ask Reform supporters and members what they really think about free speech. In this video, attendees give their views on one of the right’s most frequently used talking points — but the answers raise tough questions about Nigel Farage’s record and the party’s actual commitment to freedom of expression.
While Reform UK presents itself as the champion of "uncensored debate," the reality looks more complicated. Nigel Farage has a long history of attacking and attempting to silence speech he disagrees with, from journalists to activists. At the Birmingham conference itself, Reform UK banned certain voices from attending, including businessman and green energy industrialist Dale Vince, who was blocked from taking part despite being a major political donor and campaigner for open debate. Vince, interviewed in this video, explains why he believes Reform UK’s stance on free speech is deeply hypocritical.
Throughout the day, PoliticsJOE questioned Reform voters on whether free speech should apply equally to those they disagree with. The responses expose the contradictions at the heart of the party’s message — some call for unlimited speech, while others back bans when the views expressed don’t align with their own politics.
This film captures the tension between Reform UK’s rhetoric and reality: a party that rallies around free speech as a slogan, but struggles when it comes to applying the principle universally.
Watch to hear directly from voters, see the contradictions laid bare, and listen to Dale Vince’s reaction to being excluded from the conference.
