Thousands of Brits protest Trump's state visit

Thousands of people took to the streets of London on Wednesday in protest of President Donald Trump’s second state visit to Britain.

The demonstrations were organised under banners such as the “Stop Trump Coalition” and involved roughly 50 different groups—including climate activists, pro‑Palestinian campaigners, women’s rights organisations, and anti‑racism groups.

A major march culminated in a rally in Parliament Square.

The protesters voiced opposition to Trump’s policies and rhetoric on multiple fronts, including issues of racism, immigration, climate change, and human rights. There was strong criticism of his stances toward Gaza and his global policies generally. Some also made reference to his past associations with Jeffrey Epstein.

Visuals played a noticeable role: signs reading things like “No to racism, no to Trump,” “Stop Trump, stop fascism,” and smaller versions of the “Trump Baby” blimp were present. Also, in Windsor Castle, there was a projection of Trump’s image with Epstein onto a tower — a provocative act that led to four arrests under laws covering malicious communications.

Police presence was significant: the Metropolitan Police deployed around 1,600 officers, including reinforcements from other forces.

While the visit included traditional ceremonial touches—a state banquet at Windsor Castle, meeting with King Charles, the emphasis on the “special relationship” between the UK and US—many Britons expressed disapproval. A poll by YouGov showed that roughly 45% of Britons oppose the invitation.

Some criticism was aimed at the British government for “rolling out the red carpet” for Trump despite concerns over his track record. Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, Green Party figures, and others spoke at the protest.
