During COVID, businesses all across the country were offered jaw dropping subsidies. Sometimes it wasn’t enough to keep an already struggling business afloat, but other times it offered a great opportunity for the restaurateurs (the capitalists) to cash in. The small business loans, the PPP loans, and all the pro-business stimulus that was passed in congress were hardly used in the way they were intended. Employers got 28 Billion in no-strings-attached COVID relief money, with no requirements they use it to pay their workers or do anything for the people who actually make their businesses possible.
What makes this even worse is that servers, who rely on tips, are also asked to be the frontline enforcers of vaccine mandates from the very customers they rely on for tips. The whole system is rotten, and yet again the burden is placed squarely on the backs of those already doing the most.
