6:45Now PlayingThe window of new political, social and economic opportunity created by the COVID 19 pandemic crisis is closing, despite the disease very much not having gone away. Politicians have been quick to declare many of the programs enacted during the most tense days of the crisis has moribund and unnecessary, even as suffering continues unabated.
One key example of this is student debt relief. At one point, canceling all student debt was a real demand with credible threats during the pandemic, when years beforehand it was a law of nature that student debt was the most non-dischargeable kind of debt there is. Now that Biden’s regime has released a fairly modest debt relief proposal, everyone is hanging in the balance while the Supreme Court weighs whether the President has the authority to do this. Once again capital is always made whole while working people are left to fight for crumbs.
Summer Lee is a former Pennsylvania state legislator and dedicated organizer, activist, and advocate for social justice, and now she’s representing PA12 in the halls of Congress.
