A War For Oil: 20 Years Since Iraq

Did you protest the Iraq War? Were you politically conscious back in 2003? For a lot of millennials, the Iraq war was a major moment of political radicalization. Despite much of the nodding along as Bush and Cheney insinuated that Saddam was responsible for 9/11 and that they totally, definitely, had nuclear weapons that they were going to use for… reasons, many people stood up and protested the war before we knew just how truly monstrous its real justifications were.

In the United States, we’re hardly the victims of this wholly unjust project of American imperialism. The million or so Iraqis who have died since the invasion, as well as the untold number of refugees who fled the conflict and its subsequent evolution in the Syrian Civil War (ISIS, etc etc). Despite our movies and media telling us that the victims are actually the soldiers who felt bad for killing Iraqis (or died themselves), the true victims will never be made whole, and the people who made away with the riches of that country are somehow not in jail. Even though everyone knows Dick Cheney and George W. Bush are war criminals, they get to live out their days painting at their ranches after divying up the spoils of war. Where is the justice for Iraqis and where is the accountability for all the lies told to the American people.
