On Tuesday, April 4th, Donald Trump turned himself into prosecutors from the Federal District of New York on 34 charges related to his hush payments to Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign. There may still be charges forthcoming in the State of Georgia, and charges relating to his direct attempts to stop the certification of its 2020 election results, but for today the spotlight is on New York.
After weeks of speculation as to whether Trump would be charged, and for what, then waiting around and wondering when the axe would actually drop, today was finally the day. There was 24 hour coverage following Trump’s plane leaving from Florida to New York, and then throngs of press outside the court waiting to catch a glimpse of the former president. This is indeed a historic day, a President has never been held accountable in the post presidency, but it’s unclear if these charges will actually stick.
