Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continued his all out assault against higher education this week, signing a number of bills to make free speech increasingly impossible, unless you’re a bigot through and through- in which case you’re fine. He’s outlawing funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion programming (DEI), and even more restrictions on what educators can teach.
DeSantis is widely expected to announce a run for president next week, and he seems to be building his platform for president entirely on the back of being the most insane social conservative in power nationwide. Despite electoral problems for Republicans since the destruction of Roe and the new era of Dobbs, Ron DeSantis is going full-bore on making immiserating and repressing everyone who isn’t a well-off white guy.
