as posted by the channelDo you know someone who’s been impacted by anti-abortion laws? Laws curbing abortion rights are sweeping the country, ranging from 12 week to effectively total bans. Nebraska bundled its ban on gender-affirming care with an abortion ban, North Carolina enacted a 12 week ban, and South Carolina passed a 6 week abortion ban on May 25th. In some states there are exceptions for rape and incest, but that’s mostly window dressing for the ultimate goal: stopping women from controlling their own lives. The results have been predictably horrifying for so many people across the country.
While Republican-dominated legislatures have debated the rights of women and birth givers, real people have been made to suffer as hospitals and caregivers deny them treatment for things that are life-threatening or just downright cruel. The amount of trauma inflicted by these laws are incalculable, but mostly invisible. However, people are fighting these bans when and where they can. In Texas, at least 15 people are currently suing the state, 13 patients and two doctors, claiming that its 6 week abortion ban and criminalization have stopped people from receiving care during medical emergencies. Let a thousand lawsuits bloom.
