Elmer Stewart Rhodes, Yale law school graduate and leader of the Oath Keepers, was actually sentenced to 18 years in federal prison on “seditious conspiracy” charges for his role in the riots that day.
This charge came alongside a handful of other arrests of Oath Keepers following their connection to the January 6th attack. Picture a group of individuals clad in tactical gear, equipped with walkie-talkies and a serious sense of purpose, as if they're on a mission to protect truth, justice, and the right to wear cargo pants with an excessive number of pockets. The other charges dropped this week included a trans woman militant #girlboss in which the presiding judge said she should have focused on being a role model for trans youth, rather than a riot leader.
Meanwhile, right-wing politicians are keeping these “political prisoners” in mind— including Trump and Desantis have promised to pardon a range of “a large proportion” to “some.”
Despite having a juris doctorate degree, a powerful eye patch and the power of a trans women on their side, it seems like these Oath Keepers won’t be seeing daylight for a while. But hey, is a federal prison cell really that much different than moms basement?
