Mahmoud Kahlil, a pro-Palestine activist who organized campus protests at Columbia University, was taken by ICE from the student house where he lived with his 8-month pregnant wife. This came on the heels of Columbia losing $400 million in federal funds over the anti-genocide protests being labeled, “anti-semitic,” by Trump. Surely ICE abducting Mahmoud days later is just a coincidence, right?
Now Khalil, a green card holder and permanent resident, is being held in an ICE facility in Louisiana. On top of that, members of Trump’s regime, like Marco Rubio, are threatening to revoke his green card status and deport him. Luckily a judge has ruled that he cannot be deported while his case is being litigated. But Trump bragged on Truth Social that “This is the first arrest of many to come,” and claimed that the pro-Palestine campus protests support terrorism. This from the same guy who says storming the capitol on January 6th was patriotic!
The MAGA regime is pushing to see what they can get away with, and right now the first amendment is in the crosshairs. If they get away with this violation of Mahmoud's rights, then none of us have rights.
