The band Hawthorne Heights has a song called “Ohio Is For Lovers,” and while that just might be the boldest lie I’ve ever heard about Pennsylvania’s most disappointing neighbor, it’s not the worst of them. No, that award goes to David Paulides, whose section on Ohio in Missing 411: Eastern United States may be the worst set of misrepresented facts about things that happened in the Buckeye State that I’ve ever seen. Well, that and the weird thing that happened with Brazilians a few weeks ago on Twitter. In case you missed it, apparently Brazilians think they invented the airplane, even though the rest of the world is well aware that it was Dayton Ohio’s own Wright Brothers. Yeah, that’s right, I’m defending Ohio. Brazil messed up so bad that they have me defending Ohio. All of that aside, our ongoing series of fact checking the Missing 411 books must go on, and that means it must take us into the land of a thousand stolen Pennsylvanian ideas.
