as posted by the channelAt the G7, Trump was asked whether the Iran deal is final. His answer: no. "It's a memorandum of understanding. If I don't like it, we'll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head." Those are his words. And here's the thing, he's not wrong to say it. Because a memorandum of understanding is not a treaty. It is not a final deal. It is a one-and-a-half-page written framework that says two sides are willing to sit down and negotiate. That is all it is.
What the MOU actually does: it reopens the Strait of Hormuz toll-free, lifts the U.S. naval blockade within 30 days, extends the ceasefire, and opens a 60-day window for nuclear negotiations. What it does not address: Iran's ballistic missile program, its network of proxies: Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis — and the specific fate of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile. Those were the stated objectives going into this war. None of them are in this document. And Iran and the United States are already publicly giving contradictory versions of what they agreed to on sanctions, frozen assets, and the $300 billion rehabilitation figure. Two countries signed the same page-and-a-half and are already telling their populations different things.
Israel is not a party to this deal and has already said it will keep fighting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which Iran has made a condition of the ceasefire holding. The JCPOA took years, six world powers, and detailed technical annexes, and it still collapsed. This MOU has 60 days to solve what that couldn't. The realistic outcome: the ceasefire holds in some form, the strait stays open, the window gets extended, and every hard question gets kicked down the road. We are at the beginning of a very long process — not the end of one.
