4:21Now PlayingAcross the country, deranged and dangerous parents are threatening the lives of school board members over everything from mask policies to race and gender studies. These threats are frequently reported to police, but so far arrests have been few and far between. This is what happens when Republicans try to use education as a wedge issue and demonize people who are just trying to educate and protect our children. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

According to a major new investigation by Reuters, school boards across the country, nearly every single one, by the way, that Reuters looked at, has received death threats of some kind over several different issues. First one of course, mask mandates, right? You got right wingers. You get all the crazy anti maskers out there that are threatening the lives of school board members, because they don't want their kids to have to wear a mask in school. They would rather their kids be exposed to a virus than have to wear a little face covering while they're in the crowded buildings. Second thing they're freaking out over, the books. Oh my God, you've got books that are out there talking about homosexuality. They're talking about gender identity. Oh, they're talking about black people fighting for freedom. So that's another thing.
The other one of course is the actual discussions in class about sexual orientation and gender identity, which doesn't really happen that much. And the other one, the fourth one is of course, critical race theory, which is not taught in any schools across the country, because that is a college level theory that is taken by people who are going in that line of study. Nevertheless, real or imagined, these parents are lashing out about their grievances and threatening to kill school board members. I have to read a couple quotes, just so you know, these are profane. These are vulgar. So I'm warning you right now in case you need to turn volume down or maybe, you know, skip over this part, but I'm gonna read you two quotes from different individuals sent to different school board members.
Here's the first one. Brenda, I am going to gut you like the fat pig you are when I find you. Another one to a school board member in Pennsylvania's Pennsbury school district. This why Hitler threw you in a gas chamber. Those are just two. The report has many more instances. But I wanted to read these two quotes to show you the kind of people that we're dealing with because I could sit here and describe it. I could call them psychotic. I could call them deranged. But until you see their own words, until you hear it out loud, you don't quite get the full effect of it. And this is what school board members are facing across this country right now for doing nothing more than trying to educate kids and keep them safe. These are the things that these parents think is okay to do and so far, by the way, arrests have been few and far between.
And we need to ramp it up. This is actually why school boards have had to go to the FBI and say, for the love of God, can you investigate these people because they want to kill us. Some have tried. But this is getting out of hand and this is happening because of right wing talking points, 100%, that is what is the cause of this. When you have Republican candidates out there demonizing teachers and demonizing school districts for teaching things and talking about things that they're not even doing, that leads to violence. Never in my life have I seen the right wing as ginned up and ready to literally murder people as I am seeing right now. This is insane. This is psychotic. And something has to be done about these individuals before somebody loses their life because one of them decides to take it beyond a verbal threat and put it into action.
