Democrats Introduce Resolution To EXPEL George Santos From Congress

Democratic Representative Robert Garcia introduced a resolution on Tuesday to EXPEL Republican Congressman George Santos from the House. The resolution is privileged, which means that Republicans only have 2 days from the introduction to conduct a vote on the resolution. It will take 2/3 of the House to vote in favor in order to expel him, but this will at least put the Party on the record for the public to see. Democratic representative Robert Garcia in the US House of Representatives has introduced a resolution this week to expel Republican Congressman George Santos from the House of Representatives. And there's something different about this resolution. See, Garcia and a couple other Democrats had actually introduced a resolution to expel Santos earlier this year that Republicans did not bring to the floor for a vote. So that one went nowhere. But this time Garcia said, all right, I'm gonna use procedural rules here to my advantage. And he introduced the resolution as privileged. And because it is privileged, that means that from the moment of introduction, the Republicans have 48 hours, the clock starts ticking to conduct a vote, meaning that they have to vote on this resolution to expel George Santos. They cannot ignore it. They cannot bury it. They cannot refuse to bring it under house rules. They are required to bring it.

Now, we have seen Republicans ignore house rules in the past, so we'll wait and see. It hasn't even been 24 hours since the introduction. But basically they've got till the end of the day on Thursday, tomorrow to bring this thing to the floor for a vote. And before you get too excited about it, you do have to have two thirds of the body vote in favor of expulsion in order to remove a member. And technically, even if you get that, not that George Santos would stand a chance, the individual can actually still go back, run for the seat again, and win and come back. So I again, I don't think the voters would do that, but that is still technically a possibility if they are able to get him expelled. But the expulsion would just be kind of the secondary point at this moment, because the real objective here is to force all of the Republicans in the body to go on the record as to whether or not you support George Santos.

And that may not seem like a big deal right now. Obviously, we have plenty of Republicans who have said, I'm gonna wait and see how it all plays out in court. That's what Kevin McCarthy said, the house speaker. So why would they expel 'em now when they don't know how it's going to play out in court? Well, here's the thing. I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell that George Santos skates on all of these charges. So when he is eventually convicted, all of the Republicans that vote against expelling him, that vote is then going to come back to haunt him or haunt them. Excuse me. So if Santos is acquitted, then the Republicans who voted against it will say, ah, see we were right. And everybody moves on and forgets. But when he is convicted, then

Suddenly you have all these Republicans who were, oh, we gotta wait and see. Well, you waited and saw, and you could have done something about it earlier. So yes, it could come back to hurt these Republicans. That is obviously the goal of this privileged res resolution. And again, the secondary goal is maybe Republicans go along with it and we just get this guy outta Congress, and that's the end. That would be wonderful. But it would be even better for the Democrats if they're able to use it to take out a couple of weak Republicans in next year's midterms, which again, is the ultimate goal of this legislation to embarrass these Republicans to the point where voters don't support them anymore. And the secondary goal is, of course, getting Santos out of Congress.
