3:36Now PlayingSenate Democrats are moving forward with a voting rights bill despite Republican opposition. The first hearing on the "For the People Act" took place on Capitol Hill Wednesday. This hearing comes as many states race to roll back voting laws. BNC National Correspondent Bofta Yimam joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the legislation. Democrats say this will make voting easier and advocates say this is critical to combat voting suppression laws. The "For the People Act" would ensure all Americans have access to early voting and voting by mail. Republicans say their voting security efforts, like increasing identification requirements, are about combating voter fraud. The GOP is calling the bill a "power grab" by the Democrats. The committee vote is expected to take place in April and it faces an uphill battle every step of the way.
