3:50Now PlayingA verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin is expected this week. Citing concerns of unrest in response to the jury's decision, Judge Peter Cahill has instituted specific policies.
BNC Chief Legal Correspondent Dr. Laura McNeal joined "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss the Chauvin trial and the death of Daunte Wright.
According to McNeal, Cahill has asked the jurors to deliberate every day until 7 p.m., and if they have a verdict at night, Cahill will wait until the next morning to announce it. She also said based on precedent, a verdict could be announced by Friday.
When asked about the neighborhood where Daunte Wright was killed, Dr. McNeal said it was a reminder that police shootings can happen anywhere.
"Black men, unfortunately, are not safe anywhere," she said.
