Now, when athletes speak out, it is more amplified thanks to social media. After the death of Ma'Khia Bryant at the hands of police, LeBron James posted a tweet with a picture of the officer with the text "You're Next," and it received backlash. The tweet has since been deleted. Washington Post Columnist and New York Times best-selling author John Feinstein joined "Start Your Day" to discuss sports and activism. He said the right-wing media does not want athletes to speak up on social justice issues. He also said those same media organizations say athletes are making race an issue even though issues of race have existed since 1619. Citing his identity as a white man who speaks out against race and social justice issues, Feinstein said it's time for more white people to speak out.
