11:17Now PlayingA multi-million dollar beachfront property in southern California, that was seized from a Black family nearly 100 years ago, could soon be returned to their descendants. BNC Correspondent Anita Bennett has the latest details on the story of Bruce's Beach. Charles and Willa Bruce purchased the property and opened a resort for Black families, but that angered white residents and prompted threats from the KKK.
The local government began seizing the land in 1924 and the current Manhattan Beach City Council has refused to apologize. A bill titled S.B. 796 was created to give the land back to the Bruce family. Anthony Bruce, the great-great-grandson of the original owners, joined "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss his family's fight to get their property returned. "Well, you know, just like any other fight, you get knocked down sometimes, but again, we have to keep going. This is our family legacy," he said.
