This year, there are a record number of nominees of color. The increase in diversity shows progress, but more will come thanks to diversity and inclusion standards. April Reign, a media strategist and advocate for diversity, joined "Start Your Day" to discuss her creation of the movement #Oscarssowhite. She said the movement first addressed the Oscars but has broadened to address the lack of diversity in the entertainment industry. Reign says the Academy has never reached out to her to develop plans for diversity. "We need to start at the screenwriting stage," she said, citing that quality films need to be made that reflect diversity. She also called the Oscars' new diversity measures "window dressing on a condemned house."
