2:49Now PlayingFollowing a recent trend of assisting students with loan debt, Clark Atlanta University has canceled the balance for the 2020-2021 school year. BNC correspondent Aiyana Cristal reports from Atlanta on how the institution was able to give these students a fresh start.
Clark Atlanta University President George T. French Jr. explains that the university used different streams of funding to help relieve student stress emotionally and financially.
“We want to let them know that we understand that it has been difficult, we understand that you have some financial challenges,” French stated. He also adds that the university understood that many students would not be able to return due to outstanding balances.
French said that by using funds from the CARES Act as well as institutional dollars, they were able to assist 900 students with $2 million dollars and hopes that other universities will follow suit soon.
