9:57Now PlayingFrom 1904 to 1908, the German colonial government, occupying what is now Namibia, massacred 80% of one ethnic group that occupied the area, the Herero, and 50% of another, the Nama people. Over a century later, the Germans acknowledged their actions in Namibia were genocide. As a result, they have offered $1.4 billion in reparations, to be spent over 40 years in development projects.
Sima Luipert is the granddaughter of a survivor of the genocide and also an advisor to the Nama Traditional Leaders Association committee on genocide. She joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to talk about reparations for the genocide.
