5:48Now Playing“Start Your Day” hosts Sharon Reed and Shannon LaNier are joined by emergency physician Dr. Rob Davidson to further discuss the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of its first COVID-19 vaccine.
The Pfizer vaccine was approved by the FDA on Tuesday, August 23. Davidson said on “Start Your Day” that “personally, this is huge,” because he works at a hospital that will require vaccinations within eight weeks, or else employees will have to find a new job. Reed says you would think more than 600,000 dead Americans would be enough to convince people to get the vaccine, but for some people it’s not. As far as Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, Davidson says the public has to trust that the FDA is fully reviewing all provided data and is waiting until they have enough confidence before they approve it. When asked about side effects of the vaccine, Davidson said, “The number of adverse reactions beyond soreness, beyond kind of flu-like symptoms for a few days, is … less than one percent."
