9:32Now Playing“Prime” host Charles Blow has breaking news on the fate of now former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who has retired after racist remarks he made in 2011 came to light.
Gruden came after fire after he used racial terms to NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith, whose lips he compared to “Michelin tires.” The New York Times also exposed Gruden for casually using homophobic and misogynistic terms in his emails. Sports journalist Bill Rhoden said he’s not surprised by the news because of who Gruden is, noting, “he just seems to be that kind of person.” Rhoden notes that while Gruden is no longer on the sidelines, “there’s a whole bunch of these cockroaches who are part of his crew who laughed at his jokes [and] basically emboldened him, who are going to kind of recede back into little dark corners and just be smarter about it.” Rhoden says it raises questions about what white allies are saying when no one is listening.
