11:53Now PlayingEbony is the magazine nearly every Black family carried in their home for the last 75 years and after a two-year hiatus, it's back with a reinvented digital look.
The rapid decline of ad-funded print journalism over the last 10 years forced Ebony and its sister magazine Jet to shut down operations in 2019. Ebony’s new CEO Michele Ghee joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss revival plans of the iconic news and entertainment source that’s documenting and lifting Black lives in America.
Since its rebirth, the magazine has used video, user interactivity and other modern technologies to highlight Lena Waithe, Tobe Nwigwe, Karl Anthony-Towns, Jennifer Hudson and Nas. Referencing BNC’s coverage, Ghee says the magazine needed to come back to continue highlighting racial disparities and imbalances when it comes to Black people and the media. The CEO shared that Ebony’s new tagline is “Moving Black Forward,” adding, “that’s what we’re going to do every single day.”
