12:25Now Playing“Prime” host Charles Blow takes viewers to Texas, where Republicans have had a hell of a week, especially considering it's only Tuesday.
As the Lone Star State nears 70,000 COVID-19 deaths and continues to outpace the national rate, Gov. Greg Abbott signed an order Monday forbidding private businesses from requiring workers or customers to be vaccinated.
American and Southwest Airlines said they don’t comply with anti-mandate mandate, putting themselves at risk of a $1,000 fine. The ban covers any person who objects to vaccination “for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19.”
The Texas House of Representatives also convened Tuesday to debate the Senate-approved redistricting map, which weakens Black and Brown voting power in the state, even though people of color were responsible for 95% of population growth. Blow sat down with Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, whose district was combined with Rep. Al Green's in the redrawn map.
All this and more on “Prime.”
