9:50Now PlayingVirginia mother Pamela Ononiwu is taking action in hopes that what happened to her child won't happen to another.
Ononiwu says she went to her son’s school in Fairfax County to pick him up and take him to a dentist appointment, finding herself immediately horrified. She says a school resource officer had her child, who was 5 years old at the time, in a chokehold. The disturbing incident, which the Fairfax County school system still denies, happened in 2018.
Instead of letting the trauma get the best of her and her son, Ononiwu is suing the school district, started pushing for new laws and even ran for a seat on the school board. The determined mother joins Yodit Tewolde on “Making the Case” to discuss her ongoing fight for change.
All this and more on “Making the Case.”
