1:17:02Now PlayingOn November 15, 2023 at approximately 1:15 AM, Deputy Amy Pilloud of the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol and she observed a 2011 Kia Sorento driving erratically northbound on N Grand Avenue. The driver failed to turn into the proper lane as she turned left onto NE Stadium Way. She activated her emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and the driver stopped on NE Valley Road in the vicinity of NE Brandi Way. The driver, 23-year-old Priyanka, displayed indicators of impairment, and the Deputy could smell the odor of intoxicants in her vehicle.
She asked Priyanka where she was coming from, and she told Deputy Pilloud that she had left work at Rico’s and that she had consumed 2 beers. She would later tell the Deputy that she went to Timber for karaoke after she left Rico’s. Based on her admission to consuming alcohol, Deputy Pilloud afforded her an opportunity to perform field sobriety exercises.
The first exercise involved the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), where Deputy Pilloud observed 4/6 indicators of impairment. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, and Priyanka was unable to walk a straight line and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Priyanka was unable to maintain her balance and stopped the test before she was instructed to do so.
Following the field sobriety tests, Priyanka was asked to voluntarily take a PBT test, and it indicated a BAC of 0.19%. Based on her admission to consuming alcohol, her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, and the results of the PBT test, Deputy Pilloud placed Priyanka under arrest for driving under the influence. Another officer gave Priyanka’s friend a ride home and Deputy Pilloud transported Priyanka to the Pullman Police Department for further processing.
Deputy Pilloud read the Implied Consent Warnings to Priyanka, and after she completed the 20-minute observation period, she agreed to take a breathalyzer test. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of 0.19%, which was well over the legal limit of 0.08%. Following the breathalyzer test, Priyanka was transported to the Whitman County Jail in Colfax, Washington and booked in at 4:55 AM. She was cited under RCW 46.61.502 for Driving under the Influence (DUI) and later released on her own recognizance on November 15, 2023 at 4:00 PM.
