YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAround 3:24AM on July 21, 2024, Officer Joshua Baar with the Tampa Police Department observed a silver 2018 Chevy pickup truck weaving between lanes while headed westbound on Kennedy Boulevard between MacDill Avenue and Lois Avenue. After the driver turned right onto Lois Avenue and headed northbound, the vehicle continued weaving between lanes. The vehicle then failed to make a complete stop at a red light before turning right onto the on-ramp for I-275. At this point, Officer Baar activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in the shoulder of the on-ramp. He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 25-year-old Antoinette Marie Ahedo.
As he was speaking with her, he observed indicators of impairment and detected the odor of alcohol. She told the officer that she was the designated driver, and that they were celebrating her friend’s birthday earlier that evening. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Antoinette was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.
Officer Baar started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, where he observed 6/6 indicators of impairment along with vertical gaze nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Antoinette failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Antoinette failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete.
Based on her erratic driving, her indicators of impairment, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Antoinette was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After being placed inside the police car, Antoinette was transported by Officer Baar to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for further processing. When she was searched inside of Central Booking, a HCSO Detention Deputy found a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance inside Antoinette’s underwear. The substance tested positive as contraband. Antoinette also refused to submit to a breath test at the jail.
Antoinette was charged with the following:
1) DUI (316.193(1)(A))
2) Introduction of contraband into a detention facility (951.22(1))
3) Possession (893.13(6)(A))
After she was processed at the jail, Antoinette was later released on a $500 bond pending her court appearance.
