Drunk Bartender Drives the Wrong Way and Gets Arrested for DUI

Around 3:23 AM on March 25, 2023, Officer Greg Landry with the Tampa Police Department observed a silver 2017 Nissan driving in the wrong direction on Platt Street. The driver was headed in the westbound direction, even though the road is only designated for eastbound traffic. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over. He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 22-year-old Isabella Delgado.

As he was speaking with her, he observed indicators of impairment and detected the odor of alcohol. She told the officer that she was coming from work at Bartaco, and that she was planning to drop off off her passenger in front of his car. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Isabella was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.

Officer Landry started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Isabella failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Isabella failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete.

Based on her traffic infraction, her indicators of impairment, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Isabella was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After being placed inside the police car, Isabella was transported by Officer Landry to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for further processing.

At the jail, agreed to submit to a breath test. Her breath test results indicated BAC levels of 0.103 and 0.102, respectively, which were above the legal limit of 0.08. She was charged with a DUI (316.193(1)) and later released on a bond pending her court appearance.
