Drunk Girl Causes 3-Car Crash at OVER DOUBLE the Limit

Around 1:52 AM on April 12, 2025, Patrolman Antonio Centeno and Patrolman Daniel Erazo with the Roselle Park Police Department were dispatched to 622 Galloping Hill Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Patrolman Centeno arrived on scene and noticed that a black 2011 BMW X3 had struck a parked 2014 Chevrolet Cruze and subsequently struck a parked 2006 Dodge Caravan. He then made contact with the driver of the BMW, who was identified as Gabriela Esteves.

As he was speaking with Gabriela, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Gabriela was eventually asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.

Patrolman Centeno started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Patrolman Centeno observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Gabriela failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Gabriela failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion.

Based on the 3-car crash, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Patrolman Centeno placed Gabriela under arrest for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Gabriela was transported to the Roselle Park Police Department for further processing.

At the station, Gabriela was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she agreed to submit breath samples. Her breath test results indicated a BAC level of 0.18%, which was more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. After the officers finished processing her, she was eventually released to her sister-in-law Cendy Miranda pending her court appearance after she signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Gabriela’s behalf.

Patrolman Centeno issued Gabriela the following traffic citations:

-Operating under the influence (39:4-50)

-Reckless driving (39:4-96)

-Careless driving (39:4-97)

-Traffic on marked lanes (39:4-88)

On September 30, 2025, Gabriela’s DWI citation was dismissed. However, she was found guilty of reckless driving. As a result of her reckless driving conviction, her license was revoked for 30 days and she had to pay a total of $440 in fines. The other 2 citations were also dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
