John Does 8-10 were prisoners, and were assaulted while in prison. In this case, they sue the government, including the governor of Michigan, for failing to protect them. In particular, they sued for violations of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
The government responded that the prisoners failed to exaust their administrative remedies. As the court discusses however, the prison didn't exactly make compliance easy.
In today's case, we discuss this incident of assault in the MDOC prison system, and what relief these prisoners may be able to get.
