Italy is immersed in a very severe crisis, because although in the 1990s its citizens were richer than those of the United Kingdom, the story is different since its entry into the euro in 2002. Its economy has been stagnant for two decades and now with the coronavirus, things have gone from bad to worse. It is one of the most indebted countries in the world with a debt of over 150% of GDP.
But as of February 2021, Mario Draghi has been the country's new prime minister. As the former president of the ECB, he saved the euro and today he has the mission of trying to save Italy from the crisis in which it is mired.
So how did Italy become so rich? Why hasn't it grown since it joined the euro? What are Italy's current problems? Why doesn't it leave the euro, and can Mario Draghi get Italy out of this crisis? In this video we tell you about it.
