In this episode, Sal Mercogliano - maritime historian at Campbell University and former merchant mariner - discusses the effort by the China Overseas Shipping Company to buy 35% interest in the Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT), the main calling point for COSCO Shipping ships in Germany. The European Union has warned Germany about this acquisition, there is fear of China having too much influence, much like Russia did with regards to energy. This is causing a split in the German government over whether to veto the purchase and what it may mean if COSCO pulls out of the port of Hamburg?
